Nigeria’s Women Under 23 team, is hoping to turn the table around against their Ghanaian counterparts in the All Africa Games second leg qualifiers billed for the Ohenejan Stadium in Accra.
The first leg ended in a one-all draw at the Abuja Stadium. A result, which pleased the Ghanaians, who were seeking to make amends for their ouster from the Olympic Games 2012 in London.
But for Falcons coach Eucharia Uche, it was pressure galore as she came under fire for fielding an under strength team against the Ghanaian girls.
And now she is faced with a must win situation otherwise questions would be asked about her competence to lead the senior team to the FIFA women world cup starting June ending in Germany.
Uche will be banking on the availability of tested Falcons like Onyie Ukaonu, Faith Ikidi, Ulumma Jerome, Rita Chikwelu, Ogonna Chikwudi and Serah Michael who were all held back by their respective clubs in Europe. And with this Falcons coach is sure of beating the Ghanaian girls who are already counting their chickens before they are hatched.
“I don’t know why people pessimistic about our chances. We still have a full 90 minutes of football to play and It is not yet over for we do fear the Ghanaians,” said Uche.
She argued that the Falcons were superior in the first leg. “It was just that we didn’t convert the many chances that we created. I’m just confident we can score goals and qualify.”
