Garbaharey — Somalia’s moderate Ahlu Sunna Waljama ASWJ and fighters loyal to Al shabaab movement on Friday fought over the control of Garbaharey town in southern Somalia.
The battle started after fighters from Ahlu Sunna Waljama have assaulted key Al shabaab military position in the town of Garbaharey, the regional capital of Gedo region.
Some six people were slain and dozens more were reported hurt in the fighting today, eyewitnesses told Shabelle Media Network.
Sheikh Mohammed Hussein, a spokesperson for Ahlu Sunna said in a brief interview with Shabelle Media Network that three of Al shabaab fighters killed in the combat.
He added they also confiscated a lot of weapons including rocket propelled grenades (RPG) and assault rifle guns.
Calm reportedly returned to the town of Garbaharey as Al shabaab has not released any comments about the fighting so far.
