Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been charged with improper conduct by the FA for his comments about referee Howard Webb in the build up to the match against Chelsea last weekend.
Sir Alex told reporters upon the appointment of Webb: “He’s definitely the best referee in the country, there’s no doubt about that. We are getting the best referee and we hope it’s our turn for a little bit of luck.”
The comments are in breach of FA rule E3 which forbids the discussion of referees prior to a game.
The Red Devils boss has already served a five-match touchline ban this season for his comments about referee Martin Atkinson’s performance in an earlier match against Chelsea.
Ferguson has until 16:00 on May 16 to respond to the FA’s charge.
