Liverpool fans got the news they had been hoping when club legend Kenny Dalglish inked a three year contract at Anfield. King Kenny has revitalised the Reds’ fortunes and backed by wealthy new owners has sparked hopes the English giants can one again compete for top honours.
British bookmaker William Hill has already created the markets on just how well Dalglish will do on his second stint in charge at Liverpool. Let’s take a look at them in more detail;
Will Kenny Dalglish see out his three year contract?

Two decades ago Dalglish resigned his post as manager citing stress. Hillsborough had a massive effect on the Scotsman and the trauma left its mark when he stepped down in 1991.
Dalglish admitted he needed a break from the game and went on to achieve great success with Blackburn Rovers afterwards. Twenty years later he’s more at ease with himself, communicates better with the media and more importantly remains a winner.

Liverpool’s 18th and last title was won under Dalglish in 1990. Few would have suspected that would be their final championship for 21 years (at least) or that Dalglish would return to the club in his 60s.
In his short time back in charge he’s transformed the Reds from a meek, impotent outfit under Roy Hodgson to potential Europa League qualifiers. He’s also one of the few managers to win England’s top flight with two different clubs which isn’t even something Sir Alex Ferguson can add to his CV.
Verdict: Don’t rule it out @ Yes @ 51.0
Early in the 2009/10 season Liverpool were as short as 2.10 to be relegated from the Premier League. You need to go back to 1953/54 for the last Reds demotion and they went on to spend eight long years in the old Division Two.
Since then they’ve been an ever present in the English top flight and that doesn’t look like changing anytime soon.
Verdict: Slim and none. There is a better chance of Dalglish and Fergie swapping jobs.
Will Liverpool win the Champions League under Dalglish?

As a player Dalglish won Europe’s greatest prize on three occasions memorably scoring the winner for Liverpool against Brugge at Wembley in 1978.
Due to the ban on English clubs involvement in European competitions in the 80s he never managed a single competitive game against the top clubs of the day. Many have speculated how well Liverpool’s class of the late 80s would have fared against Milan but we will never know.
Rafael Benitez won the Champions League for Liverpool with a worse squad than Dalglish’s current crop. With improvements a sixth European Cup might be worth a punt.

Liverpool’s new owners flexed their financial muscles in the January transfer window splashing out on Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez.
Dalglish is well used to spending big breaking the record to sign strikers Alan Shearer (£3.3m 1992) & Chris Sutton (£5m 1994) and has done the same with Andy Carroll.

When Sir Alex Ferguson arrived at Old Trafford in November 1986 his fellow Scotsman had been in charge of Liverpool for just over a year.
Both men have enjoyed a long rivalry which was hastened by a row in Mexico 1986 when Dalgish pulled out of Fergie’s Scotland World Cup squad. There isn’t much love lost between these two natives of Glasgow who are separated by almost a decade in age. The saga will continue for a few more years at least.
Verdict: One to avoid. Ferguson has outlasted five Liverpool managers since Dalgish departed in 1991 and shows no signs of retiring.
