Juventus veteran Gianluigi Buffon dismisses reports of a move to Arsenal

Juventus’ veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has dismissed reports linking him with Premier League outfit Arsenal.

The Gunners have had a troubled campaign where goalkeepers are concerned, with constant injuries to their trio of shot-stoppers forcing manager Arsene Wenger to bring Jens Lehman out of retirement to act as cover.

Even at 33-years-old, Buffon would still carry a substantial fee if he were allowed to leave the Turin club after the former Serie A champions paid a reported £32 million back in 2001 to Parma for his signature.

Regardless, the Italian has played down such links with the English club and insists his future lies with Juventus, despite another struggling season which finds Luigi Del Neri’s side attempting to grasp the final Europa League place.

“Next year I will still be at Juventus,” Buffon told Sky Sports Italia when quizzed on the prospect.

“I don’t think there is such a possibility of me going to Arsenal. My intentions and that of the club are to continue together.

“It’s been a disappointing season, we missed too many opportunities. Now Europe is the minimum target and is a question of dignity.”

With Del Neri walking on thin ice, the Juventus board are thought to be considering replacing the former midfielder, but Buffon has given his boss a vote of confidence.

“As long as I go to training and I find Del Neri here, I’m glad.”
