Chelsea’s Florent Malouda set to become shareholder in Ligue 2 side Dijon

Chelsea midfielder Florent Malouda is set to become a shareholder in French Ligue 2 outfit Dijon, and will contribute to a five-year investment project designed to produce young talent.

Club president Bernard Gnecchi confirmed that the 30-year-old, whose brother Lesly plays for the Burgundy-based side, has committed to financial support and is enthusiastic about his role in the development of the team. 

Gnecchi told France Football: “Florent will indeed invest money and become a shareholder. For now, he will take no official position, as he is still very busy. But, someday he will, because he spends much time on this project. 

“His experience may be helpful. It is a medium-term investment over five years. Dijon wants to open a training centre, and work on the social education of young players.” 

The supremo added that the presence of the former Lyon man’s brother in the Dijon squad had a part to play in the arrangement, stating: “Dijon has done much for him Lesly. He had left the professional circuit, and the club revived him, and now he is poised to return to Ligue 1. 

“His presence has obviously played a role.”
