A few months ago, controversial Tanzanian singer Ray C went all out and accused Kenyan promoter Saadat Muhindi of sexual harassment. However, the two are now working together but their drama has taken a new twist.
The singer is now accusing Standard Pulse editor, Charles Otieno, of writing false stories about her in last Friday’s magazine. According to the Pulse story, Ray-C had fallen out with Saadat for the second time and he had abandoned her in a hotel where the editor came to her rescue.
Speaking at a press conference at K1 in Nairobi where she is currently staying, Ray-C refuted the claims, saying that she has never met the editor before and that she has not fallen out with Saadat again. “I have never met Chalo (Charles Otieno) and I don’t even have his number. Besides even if I had problems why should I ask a journalist for help yet I know what it would lead to?” she posed. She has also threatened to sue the paper for defamation unless it apologises on the same page. “Music is my life; I don’t have a degree that’s why it pains me .Such stories will spoil my name. Do you want to send me back to Iringa?” asked a bitter Ray-C. Iringa is Ray-C’s hometown in Tanzania.
Pulse editor Charles Otieno is, however, adamant that he sorted out Ray-C’s bills after she was thrown out of a hotel where Saadat had abandoned her two weeks ago. “It is true that she (Ray-C) called me in the middle of the night looking for a place to sleep and I sorted out her bills,” said the Pulse editor who had just walked in after the press conference by Ray-C. The Tanzanian songstress disappeared on seeing him. “She cannot face me because she knows she is lying. I’m a rich man (showing off some money in an envelope); I even paid for her video MotoMoto; she owes me a lot,” he said.
