Osaze faces Eagles ban

Nigeria’s hottest striker in Europe, Osaze Odemwingie, could be kept out of the team’s top games against Argentina and Ethiopia after a twitter rant against coach Samson Siasia, according to media reports.

The West Bromwich Albion striker, who has so far plundered 15 goals this season in the English Premier League, could now be made to pay for his outburst against Siasia on twitter last month.

Osaze vented his anger against the Eagles handler on twitter when he was only used as a substitute in a Nations Cup qualifier against Ethiopia in Abuja in April.

He will later leave the team for England and so not feature in a friendly against Kenya also in Abuja a few days later.

Officials told Nigerian daily sports paper, Complete Sports, Siasia has insisted on handing Osaze a two-match ban for his misconduct.

“We want to wade into this issue before it tears the team apart,” the paper quoted an unnamed official.

Outspoken Osaze has had a run-in with several national team coaches, namely Augustine Eguavoen, Shuaibu Amodu and Lars Lagerback.

He also came close to walking out on the country’s team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics after face-off with coach Siasia.

Siasia is expected to soon pick a 30-man squad for the matches against Argentina and Ethiopia early next month.
