Namibia/Egypt: Local Referees Set for CAF Course

Namibian match officials Rainhold Shikongo and Dawid Shaanika will attend a Caf referee’s course for young talented referees and assistants in Cairo next month.

Following a request from the Confederation of African Football (Caf) Refereeing manager Kalombo Bester for member associations to send two representatives each, the Namibia Football Association National Referees Committee put forward the names of the promising pair.

The course will be held in Cairo, Egypt from June 5 to June 10. Referee Shaanika was recently involved in the Caf Youth Championship in South Africa whilst Shikongo, an assistant, refereed the All Africa Games round two second leg match between Zimbabwe and Botswana.

Meanwhile, Brave Warriors Goalkeeper coach Ronnie Kanalelo last month attended a Goalkeeping Instructors seminar in Pretoria which was organized by Fifa.

According to Fifa”s technical Director Jean-Michel Benezet, who visited Namibia last year, the seminar was successfully completed and all participants were able to benefit form the lessons provided.

“We hope that this programme will contribute to the improvement of goalkeeping development in your country and that your participant will have the possibility to pass on his new acquired knowledge to their local colleagues”, read the Fifa statement.

The seminar was a second of two pilot projects with the first having taken place in Morocco in March this year for French-speaking Africa.

The objectives of the seminar included testing the new material for goalkeeper coaching and presentations of content to English-speaking Africa.

The hectic program of the three-day seminar was centred around three critical points – young goalkeepers, technical and practical preparation of goalkeepers.
