Namibia: Pistol Shooters Awarded Medals in South Africa

Windhoek Central Pistol Club took part in the annual SA championship for target shooting towards the end of April in Pretoria.

The team collected 13 individual medals and two silver team medals in the open class of the competition. In the team were Friedhelm Sack (coach/team manager), Boelie Malherbe (master class), Michael Bartlewski (master-, gold-, silver- and bronze class), Michael Jaeger (bronze class), Kobus Thorburn (bronze class), Nicolay Jaeger (junior class)

Malherbe received one bronze medal, while Bartlewski got two golds, a silver and and two bronzes. The senior Jaeger managed a silver with Nicolay, his son, bagging a gold in the junior division and two bronze in the Senior Men’s Bronze division.

The team that won medals consisted of Malherbe, Bartlewski and Michael Jaeger. The team almost scored gold in the air pistol class as they tied with first place, but as the association applies a tie break rule they lost out on the last round.

Nicolay went with the team as a junior and like his father Michael and teammate Kobus Thorburn, it was his first international event. Young Nicolay reportedly had an exceptional tournament as he won all junior events and in some disciplines was even good enough to receive medals in the senior men’s bronze division.

The next national competition is scheduled for May 14 at the Luiperdsvalley shooting range.
