Major Infrastructure Projects Implemented in She’ib Sub-Zone

Major infrastructure development projects worth over 550 million Nakfa have been implemented in She’ib sub-zone, Northern Red Sea region, disclosed Mr. Girmai Mebrahtu, Administrator of the sub-zone.

Pointing out that previously only few villages were grouped in Wekiro and Dige in the sub-zone previously, he said that 14 villages have presently been regrouped in 8 administrative centers in which social service facilities could be made available with less expenditure.

Reports disclosed that 11 schools ranging from pre-school to secondary level, 21 wells, 44 water stations, 9 reservoirs and 33 Km-long pipelines have been put in place. 95% of the inhabitants are in a position of obtaining potable water supply. Furthermore, adult education programs are being provided in Gedged, Wekiro, Tiluk and She’ib.

Mr. Girmai stated that the health center and station in Mensheb and Wekiro respectively are rendering commendable service, and that people’s awareness regarding modern health care has been enhanced. He added that the construction of Serejeka-Shebah road is playing vital role in the development of the sub-zone. Moreover, the She’ib-Gahtalai-Ginda and She’ib-Gahtalai-Massawa routes, as well as the She’ib-Afabet-Keren road are making significant contribution in rendering vital service.

Stating that land has been allotted to 9,500 nationals, Mr. Girmai explained that construction of water diversion schemes are playing impressive role in boosting agricultural production.
