‘I’d have to be 100% injured to miss a game’ – Liverpool’s Jamie Carragher insists he’s ‘well worth’ place in the team

Liverpool fans favourite Jamie Carragher believes he is well worth his place in the Reds team and admits he would “hate” to ever leave the club.

After recovering from a dislocated shoulder earlier in the season, Carragher has missed just 30 minutes of his sides last eleven Premier League outings, games where they have beaten the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City, picking up 23 points and five clean sheets in the process.

“I think I’m well worth my place at the moment and if I keep the levels that I’ve been reaching, I don’t see why that should change,” Carragher told LFC Weekly.

“I think age is in people’s heads really. If an older player has a bad game, sometimes he may look for an excuse. I don’t feel that much different to a few years ago.”

Carragher has remained a regular at Anfield under his fifth manager at the club in Kenny Dalglish and picked up his 666th appearance at Craven Cottage at Fulham on Monday night, almost 15 years since his debut under Roy Evans.

At 33, the prospect of not playing for the Reds confuses Carragher and he says that ultimately, his future is in the hands of his manager.

“People always ask me and other players about the future but it’s up to the manager, isn’t it? The manager decides whether you get picked or not,” added Carragher.

“If it got to a stage where I was hardly ever playing and I still felt I could do something, I’m not sure what I’d do.

“But I’d hate to leave here. I’d hate for my career to just fizzle out because I love playing football so much.”

Liverpool born and bred, Carragher holds a special place in the affections of Red’s supporters due to his determination and bravery on the pitch and the ex-England international says his still absolutely determined to keep upping his appearance tally.

 “You’re desperate to play, you don’t want to let the team down, you fear losing your place,” he added.

“I think I’d have to be 100% injured to miss a game.”
