REIGNING champions APR, Rayon Sport, Kiyovu and Police are all through to the quarter-finals of the Peace Cup after winning their respective matches yesterday.
APR and Rayon claimed identical 9-0 victories over second division sides United Stars and Pepiniere while Police ejected Amagaju after a 1-0 victory.
At Kigali Regional Stadium, Kiyovu battled their way to a 1-0 win over La Jeunesse.
Jabir Mutarambirwa who plays on the right winger scored the lone goal 20 minutes into the second half. The green baggies however had to contain a barrage of attacks from La Jeunesse who were unlucky to lose after dominating possession.
In a brief post-match interview, Emmanuel Ruremesha, who joined the youthful team two weeks ago, was quick to blame poor finishing for the defeat.
“We played nice football today but failed to put away our chances,” the former Rayon assistant coach conceded.
In other matches, AS Muhanga needed penalty-shootouts (4-3) to see off Aspor while Mukura defeated Sec Academy 2-1 in Huye.Marine also thumped Interforce 5-1.
The quarter-finals will be played on May 21 while the semi-finals are slated for June 11. The third-place playoff and final are scheduled for June 18.
Last year, APR beat Rayon 1-0 in the final to walk away with Rwf10m in cash prize. The blues whose last silverware came back in 2005 settled for as consolation Rwf 7m.
The Peace Cup winners represent Rwanda in the Orange Confederation Cup.
