Premier League Team of the Week: Another Maxi Rodriguez hat-trick earns him a place in midfield with age defying Ryan Giggs

As the final few games roll around in the Premier League we are finally starting to see some issues draw to a close.

Manchester City, for example, secured a Champions League spot after beating Spurs 1-0 on Tuesday night thanks to Peter Crouch’s generosity. Perhaps he felt bad for Roberto Mancini’s side after grabbing the winner against them last year in the same fixture, so plopped one into his own net instead.

Meanwhile, City’s cross-town rivals United took a huge step towards winning their 19th league title with a 2-1 win over second-placed Chelsea, where Chicharito scored after a mere 36 seconds. Arsenal, again, choked at a vital stage of the season, going down to Stoke City 3-1, in the perfect preparation for the Potters for Saturday’s FA Cup final against Manchester City.

At the other end of the table West Ham missed the chance to gain points on their relegation rivals – only drawing 1-1 at home to Blackburn – while Blackpool, Wolves and Wigan also all picked up points to leave the bottom of the table tighter than Neil Ruddock’s shorts.
