Galgala — Nearly 20 people have been killed and dozens more injured after heavy fighting between the security forces of zSomalia’s semi-autonomous state of Puntland and Islamist fighters loyal to Sheikh Mohammed Sa’id Atom broke out in Galagala village just outside of Bosaso town, about 1500 km north of Mogadishu.
The fighting is said to have erupted after more Islamist fighters attacked military positions based by Puntland forces early today.
Sources told Shabelle that the Islamist fighters confiscated the town and captured a number of unconfirmed military vehicles from Puntland forces.
The Islamist fighters have not released any comments about the fighting so far.
