Sierra Leone: Rodney Strasser Writes History in Italy

Freetown — Rodney Strasser has written a new history in football for Sierra Leone as he became the first Sierra Leonean to win the Italian Serie A title after his side, AC Milan were crowned champions of Italy for the 2010-11 season.

The 21 year-old Sierra Leonean midfielder, who joined Milan in 2007, was part of the Rossoneri side that won the Italian league title in Rome on Saturday after their goalless draw with Roma.

The former FC Kallon midfielder, who is the first Sierra Leonean to lift the Scudetto, said on African sport tv online: “It’s a good feeling to win a major title after joining the first team on a permanent basis. The is the greatest moment and a wonderful achievement of my career and I want to thank everyone that supported me, including my manager Massimiliano Allegri for his trust in me with opportunities this season to make the Milan squad.”

Strasser made his first-team debut on 21st December 2008, in a 5-1 win against Udinese, coming on as a substitute for Kakha Kaladze in the 82th minute.

His first appearance this season was in a UEFA Champions’ League group stage game where they won 2-0 against Auxerre on 23 November 2010, it also marked his debut in European club competition. In January 6 this year he went on to score a vital goal in his Milan career against Cagliari which gave his side a vital three points.

Strasser is also on course to win another trophy with Milan as they play against Palermo in the semi-final of the Italian Cup on Tuesday.
