The Bimbila MP told Citi FM and Metro T.V’s ‘Good Morning Ghana’ Show, that he has irrefutable evidence that a ring worn by Professor Mills during the 2008 electioneering period, was not an ordinary ring, but one that gave him victory over his main challenger, Nana Akufo-Addo.
The MP wonders why the President has since stopped wearing the said ring, and has quoted nameless insiders within the ruling NDC to back his allegation. He has vowed to reveal the source of the “magical ring” at the appropriate time.
But Mr. Nii Lantey Vanderpuije, a close confidante to the President, has rubbished the MP’s allegation describing it as naïve, myopic and petty.
“How can you just get up and conclude that a ring that a particular person is wearing is a magic ring and say it is the cause of this or that. Would he want to disclose the source that told him this? If I get up today and say that sources within NPP have told me that Nana Addo is uncircumcised, will he (Dominic Nitiwul) be happy about it?” he asked.
“I am utterly shocked at the level of thinking of somebody like him who is an MP to sit on TV and then come on radio to say this. It’s unheard of and it is the lowest level of madness and I would not want to credit him with anything” he noted.
Mr. Vanderpuije however failed to answer specific questions on the existence or otherwise of the supposed “magic ring, except to say it was not within his powers to acquaint himself with what the President wears.
“I am not the one to determine what sort of ring President Mills is wearing or to determine what sort of ring anyone in this country wears because I am not there when the person is wearing that ring. May be Nitiwul knows something that we do not know. May be amongst his people, they wear magic rings, they were amulets, and visit places that they are not supposed to visit, and they do things that we do not do. Professor Mills is a God-fearing man; he believes in God, reveres God, loves God and he does everything according to what God tells him to do. That’s the sort of faith he has and that’s why we follow him” he noted.
What is a magic ring? What does magic signify? Is it occultic or spiritual? Is it Christian or Islamic? For an MP to show such naivety is unheard of and I can’t just believe it.
“I am not the one to ask President Mills why he is not wearing a particular ring he was wearing yesterday. I cannot prescribe the fashion for the President; I don’t prescribe what he does. We should not encourage such pettiness and such levels of naivety. If Nitiwul leaves within a particular environment, I believe that my civilization has gone beyond the age of Nitiwul, that’s why I don’t believe in these things. I am sorry; I am a Christian and I believe in Christ” he noted.
