Mills’ Deputy Ministers are little flies -Herbert Mensah

A former Chief Executive Officer of Kumasi Asante Kotoko Football Club and renowned football administrator, Mr. Herbert Mensah, has said the presidency lacks the ‘balls’ to deal with erring ministers of state, which is why small flies were putting up what he called stupid attitudes towards former President Rawlings. ‘They should allow the presidency to deal with people at their level,’ he fumed.

Speaking on Peace FM’s morning show yesterday, Mr. Herbert Mensah said some junior ministers exhibit tendencies of gross disrespect when dealing with internal party matters, which are over and above their status.

‘If the former president is talking about the sitting President, it is for the President to respond, and not the deputy Ministers, because they are little flies,’ he fumed.

He accused government appointees like the Deputy Minister of Environment and Science, Dr. Omane Boamah, Deputy Information Minister, Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Deputy Minister of Tourism, James Agyenim Boateng, as people lacking the stature to respond when the former President and founder of the party makes any major statement bordering on the welfare of the party.

Mr. Mensah, who is not a newcomer to controversy, said when the issue of finding accommodation for the former President Rawlings was being addressed, he had to call National Security to tell them not to feature ‘small ministers of very little standing’ to take on the founder of the party.

‘Are we saying that the executive does not respect its own power, or that they do not have any respect for age and position as Ghanaians? Are we saying that the executive secretly encourages these Ministers?’ he posed.

Mr. Mensah said some of these disturbances could have stopped a long time ago if the executives had the courage to stand up and show that they had the strength and merit to justify their own existence.

He confirmed that he had strong ties with the Rawlingses, and also supports the move of the former first lady to run for the flagbearership of the party.

The Chronicle is informed that Mr. Mensah is in a relationship with one of the daughters of the Rawlingses.

‘I was accused last year of making banners and T- shirts which made no sense,’ Mr. Mensah said. ‘I have my opinion on how one should support friends. I am doing what I can to support them,’ he added.

According to Mr. Mensah, behind the scenes, they had been looking for ways that can help resolve the issues in the NDC, because there was a greater interest beyond themselves and their own parochial interests.

‘Since last year, we have on many occasions put forward suggestions, and sent proposals suggesting how to resolve matters and save the President, but to no avail,’ he lamented.
