Kamboi Eagles Move Three Points Clear At Summit

Freetown — Kamboi Eagles extended their lead at the top of the Africell-sponsored Sierra Leone Premier League table to three points after defeating Old Edwardians 1-0 in Freetown on Sunday.

The league leaders continue their push for the title this season after striker Ansu Mansaray scored a terrific goal to give the visitors an early lead in the first half. The result leaves the Eagles at the summit with 14 points from six matches, while Old Edwardians stay on 10th position with five points from five matches.

Meanwhile, FC Kallon registered their first victory in the league with a deserving 2-1 win over Central Parade on Friday at the National Stadium. It was Coach Charlie Wright’s first win in four matches but they were made to work hard for it from a Central Parade side that has had a very poor start in the league with only one win.

Striker Alhaji Kamara aka Andriano scored Kallon FC’s fist goal in the league to give his side an early lead but Parade striker, Lahai Chandus Freeman, leveled the score line before half time with a spectacular header. Substitute Lansana Kamara restored Kallon FC’s lead with a volley in the box which hit the ground, went off the post before it landed at the back of the net. The three points sent Kallon to eighth position on the log with six points, while Central Parade lies eleventh with four points.

Elsewhere, Diamond Stars moved fifth on the league table after a 1-0 home win over Nepean Stars of Bo with the only goal scored by Sidique Nabie. The result leaves Nepean Stars just a place above the relegation zone with four points.

Also on the winning spree over the weekend were champions, East End Lions who defeated east-end rivals Kissy All Stars 3-2. Winger Foday Samura aka Pizzaro scored a brace, with the other goal scored by veteran Sidikie Mansaray.

Goals from Kissy All Stars’ Emmanuel Athkins and Alex Sesay were not enough for the newcomers to rescue a point against the champions who are now on sixth position just above Freetown City FC on goal difference; both teams have seven points apiece.

Kissy All Stars currently occupy one of the relegation spots, as they lie on 13th position with three points from five matches.
