The Gambia Scout Association, in collaboration with the Sct. Geoge’s Guides of Denmark (the Gambia) and the Gambia Boden Power International Scout/Guide Fellowship, on Thursday 5th May donated school materials, furniture, second hand clothing and hospital beds to many schools and organisations including the Presidential Alternative Treatment Clinic and Bakoteh Police Station.
The presentation ceremony was held at the Little Tree’s Scout Centre in Bakoteh. Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the Commissioner of Scout and Project Coordinator, Pa Omar Bojang, said these materials were issued by elderly Danish scout through this project to help their partners in order to contribute to the development of the country.
He said the elderly scout in Denmark equipped the two containers and that they were shipped and paid for by the Danish Government.
Mr. Bojang urged the recipients to put the materials into good use. He thanked their partners for helping them in contributing immensely to the development of the country.
The president of the Scout Association, Aja Kassa Kanteh Sanneh, said this is not the first time scouts have been supporting their counterparts scouts and other institutions in the Gambia through the Danish Project. “We cannot pay them but we’re indeed grateful to them,” Kanteh said.
She advised the beneficiaries to put the materials into good use and urged their counterparts to maintain the relationship. She called on her fellow scout members to emulate their partners in doing the same thing as the elderly Danish scouts did. She thanked their partners for the gesture.
Other speakers included Messrs Ousman Semaga Janneh and Ousman Jatta, International Scout Commissioner.
The beneficiaries included Balangharr Lower Basic School, School for progress, Fagikunda with School, Alhagie Massaneh Ceesay Basic Cycle School in Bundung, Mbanta Arabic School, Bakoteh Police Station, Gambia Scout Association for regional office URR/CRR Girl Guides Skills Centre, Soma and many others.
The presentation was done by the President of the Scout Association.
