Hercules striker David Trezeguet has stated he does not regret his move to the La Liga strugglers, despite relegation on the cards for the Alicante outfit.

Instead, the former French international considers losing the 2006 World Cup final against Italy as the biggest disappointment he has endured in football.

The club currently sits second from bottom, six points adrift of safety with only three games to go.

“Hercules’ season is one of my biggest disappointments in my career but there is no comparison to losing a World Cup final,” the 33-year-old told Marca.

“It’s a disappointment because the expectations set were different, especially on my part. There are still three games left and we have to take advantage of this and finish the best way possible.”

The experienced hitman has been linked with a move back to his native France in the summer but refused to speculate on the rumours.

“I do not know where my future lies, we’ll see in due course,” he added.

Hercules entertains Mallorca on Wednesday evening, knowing that defeat could leave it relegated to Spain’s second tier.
