The Congress of Progressive Change on Monday in Abuja explained the genesis of the recent post-election violence in most parts of northern Nigeria insisting that the breakdown of law and order after the declaration of President Goodluck Jonathan as winner was engendered by concocted results.

It also pleaded with Nigerians not to abandon it in the case which has been filed at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, saying its cause was for the entire nation and not just its presidential candidate, Maj.-Gen. (retd) Muhammadu Buhari.

The National Legal Adviser of CPC, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN), who said this at a news briefing said that until incumbent public officials purged themselves of the desperation to remain in office, there would always be crisis.

He said, “Our national history has however taught us that the determination to win elections by incumbents by any means has always given birth to spontaneous reactions in the form of breakdown of law and order.”
