Barring any last minute hitches, representatives of Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah are expected to pick up nomination forms for the flagbearership contest of the NDC today, Tuesday May 10.
Alhaji Seidu Nasir, a representative from the office of Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah has confirmed to Citi News that the Vice Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress party intends to contest for the flagbearership slot in the upcoming Sunyani Congress in July.
The New Statesman on Monday May 9, reported that the CEO of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organization (CTO) was likely to resign his position as a Vice Chairman of the Party and pick up his nomination forms.
Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah declined to confirm or deny media reports suggesting that he will pick up the forms for the flagbearer position in an interview on Monday.
However, in a press statement posted on the Ekwow Spio Garbrah Fan club page on social networking site, Facebook, on Tuesday May 10, Dr Ekwow Spio Garbrah said a decision to pick nomination forms for the flagbearership slot of the ruling NDC or not would depend on whether picking the forms would bring peace to the NDC or heighten the crisis in the party.
Confirming the intention to pick the forms to host of the Citi Breakfast show, Moro Awudu on Tuesday, Alhaji Seidu Nasir noted that several consultations have taken place with NDC big wigs and some members of the media fraternity and the decision has been reached to contest the flagbearership slot of the NDC.
Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah contested the 2006 primary but lost to Prof Mills, who then went on to win the 2008 general elections.
Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings and President John Mills are the only persons to have picked up nomination forms to contest the party’s flagbearership slot to be held as part of a national delegates congress from July 8-10, 2011 at the Brong Ahafo regional capital of Sunyani.
