Rawlings’ Aim Is To Destroy Vice President Mahama

The Upper West Regional Branch of the June Four Movement says it is the aim of former President Jerry John Rawlings to destroy the presidential ambition of Vice President John Mahama after President John Atta Mills’ term.

“The potential of Vice President Mahama as President of Ghana is
Mr Rawlings’s target and not President Mills as some people think,”
the Movement said at a press conference.

Mr. Geoffrey W. Tuu, the Regional Secretary of the Movement, said
President Mills was not the target because with his track record of
performance, he would win the delegates’ congress against Mrs.
Rawlings and also the 2012 polls hands down. He said former President Rawlings should be aware that members of the Movement and other clear minded cadres would not accept to be mobilised to support any hero-worshipping anymore.

He said the days of using people were over and that power could
not be resided in one man alone or being a property of a man and a
wife. “It is now time to work with people and that is what the
President Mills is doing with his able and affable Vice President
Mahama”, Mr Tuu said.

Mr. Tuu reminded former President Rawlings that the Movement was
not borne out of such “segregation” principles or existed to propel
self centeredness and dynastic ambitions.

He appealed to all delegates throughout the country to exercise
their franchise with dignity and respect for objective, truth and
reality. Mr. Tuu said at the advent of constitutional rule, all cadres
were advised to step aside and were virtually dumped. He said the few who were considered for appointment during former President Rawlings’s administration suffered various forms of humiliation when they dared to speak out for the betterment of the system.

Vice President Mahama is one of such persons among a few who had
been identified with credibility and high leadership qualities and
must not be allowed to be destroyed by egocentric individuals.

Mr. Tuu said: “As members of the Movement, we gave every support
to Rawlings which was relevant at the time. We are also not ignorant
of the sacrifices he made going through torture and other forms of
military brutalities at the time under the powers that be,” Mr Tuu
said.

However, he said, he should be reminded that all the successes
he chalked, he did them with the support of others, notably members of
the June Four Movement and other gallant cadres of the December 31
Revolution as well as indefatigable individuals some of whom were
still alive. “The NDC cannot therefore be a property of a man and a wife or for a family alone”, Mr. Tuu said.
