Chelsea’s John Terry admits his side ‘did not deserve anything’ against Manchester United

Chelsea captain John Terry says that his side did not deserve to take anything from their title showdown with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Blues endured a nightmare start which saw United’s Mexican forward Javier Hernandez score after just 36 seconds, with the champions failing to recover from the early setback and going down to a 2-1 defeat.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side had arrived at Old Trafford knowing that a victory was essential as they looked to retain their Premier League crown.

“We were fully prepared and it’s one of those things,” Terry said.

“We felt it was in our hands and we could come here and we could win the game. Sometimes, you have to hold your hands up.

“We came here hoping and praying that we started well and the role was completely reversed. They had a great start and got the early goal, which settled them.”

Following Hernandez’s early strike, skipper Nemanja Vidic headed home midway through the first half. Frank Lampard did, however, reduce the deficit in the second period but Chelsea were unable to level.

“First half, we didn’t deserve anything from the game at all,” added the England skipper.

“I thought second half we came out, we had nothing to lose and went for it and dominated the second half.

“It just would’ve been interesting to get that second goal and get it back to level terms.”
