Angela Bassett Gets Credit For Securing “Jumping The Broom” Cast

Dimewars.com :    If you enjoyed watching “Jumping the Broom” this weekend, you can thank actress Angela Bassett for it’s cast. Angela Bassett takes on the role of a well-to-do mother who’s daughter is engaged to a less well-to-do man.

The film follows the clashes, the disagreements and the inevitable make-up. Angela tells the Miami Herald about choosing to take on the role,

‘I just think I inherently exude some strength. But, I think I consciously do try to bring the humanity or the vulnerability of the character to bear’. However, Bassett further said that she is unaware of her own screen presence:

‘I look at the screen and I’m like ‘Oh, oh, did I do that?’ You’re not conscious of what you’re doing or how it’s coming out. But, you can’t be that exacting about it because then it’s really technical and you sense the technique but not the passion or the feeling. So I always rely on my actors, on who is across from me.’

While Angela did bring her presence and excellent work ethic, it was her decision to jump on board early that secured the remaining cast for the low budget film. Tracy Edmonds, the producer shared this with Miami Herald,
