Jason Roberts opened the scoring after 13 minutes, but after Thomas Hitzlsperger’s powerful effort late on, the Rovers were content to escape with a draw.
The Hammers now stay rooted to the foot of the Premier League table and Kean was by far the happier of the two managers and was pleased with his team’s overall performance.
“It’s a big point, I think we came set up to be hard to break down and invite West Ham to come out, they had to come and beat us, that would leave space in behind fullbacks, we did that in the first half,” Kean told reporters.
“We had to get a second goal to get the cushion, we knew West Ham were going to throw attacking option on and we couldn’t get a block on the shot for the goal.”
The point sees Rovers sit just three points above the relegation zone with two fixtures remaining and Kean is confident about Premier League survival, but admits he doesn’t know how many more points his side need.
“In the last five Premier League games we’ve had five results, that’s a positive thing we’ll be stressing to the lads for the next two games,” he added.
“I don’t know what we need, but we do need to keep picking up points and maintain our positive goal difference”
After Hitzlsperger’s equalizer West Ham continued to search for a winner, with Robbie Keane missing from close range late on to deny the Hammers a victory.
Kean accepts that Blackburn was perhaps lucky to escape with a draw but has praised his defenders for their efforts in keeping the Hammers attack at bay.
“It’s disappointing, we know they had lots of opportunities but Paul Robinson only made two saves, he was unsighted for the goal,” said Kean.
“Gael Givet and Christopher Samba were fantastic all day, getting blocks and making it difficult for the West Ham attack.
“It flashed across the six yard box, and you see Robbie Keane’s going to open up and its going to hit the far post and go in, it was good to see he hasn’t connected.”
