The deceased to reported to have met his untimely death when he decided to spend the night of Easter Sunday in the house of his girlfriend, Sarah Darko, after both had returned from the club.
It is believed Yaw Boateng was shot in the chest by his-would-be-in-law at close range, when he awoke around 2:00 a.m., to go and urinate in a gutter near the house.
While urinating, reports say, he heard Mr. Anane enquire as to who was walking in the house at such a time. Instead of answering, Boateng rather jumped over the fence wall, and tried to escape compelling Mr. Anane to suspect he was a thief.
Mr. Anane is said to have grabbed his unlicensed locally-manufactured gun and, in the company of a tenant in the house, chased Boateng, who had taken cover in an uncompleted house.
The tenant is said to have identified Boateng after they caught him hiding under a bench and told Mr. Anane it was the boyfriend of his daughter but he still shot him.
“Even when he was told it was Boateng, whom he knew very well, he still pointed the gun at his chest and shot him while the boy was trying to explain himself,” a source told Today, adding that, “Boateng fell on his face and died instantly.”
News of his murder reportedly angered the area youth, who took the law into their hands and vandalized the suspect’s properties. And but for the timely intervention of the police, all Mr. Anane’s properties would have been razed down by the irate youth.
The Effigyase Asokore Divisional Police Commander, Superintendent Alex Amenyo, confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with this reporter, adding that Mr. Anane was in their custody.
He recalled that the suspect lodged a complaint with the police around 3:00 a.m., that fateful morning that his house had been raided by robbers and in his bid to defend himself he shot one of them while the rest absconded.
Yaw Boateng, otherwise known as “Batman,” until his death was a final-year student of the Dadiase Agricultural School.
