Rector Links MDGs Attainment To ICT

THE Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State, Dr. Philipa Idogho yesterday said one of the ways Nigeria could meet her United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) is to invest in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in all tertiary institutions.

She said the polytechnic has already commenced various training schemes to empower staff and students of the school, adding that at least 24 members of staff are already undergoing their Ph.D programmes in Nigeria and other parts of the globe.

She also gave insight as to how cultism was curbed in the school three years ago when she took over as the first female rector of the institution.

Speaking to journalists shortly after she and the management staff of the institution conducted journalists round projects in the school, Idogho said the authorities of the institution had in the past three years spent several millions of naira in sending the students’ union leaders abroad for workshops on security and leadership.

Besides, she said within three years, her administration has constructed storey buildings housing six large lecture halls, a block of four classrooms for the polytechnic’s secondary school, renovated four bungalows and a storey building to serve as offices in Campus Two. The administration, she added, has upgraded and rehabilitated the old Aviele Road (NNPC Road) leading to Campus Two, and is currently building the  Centre for Entrepreneurship Development of Auchi Polytechnic  (CEDAP); all from Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
