His decision was immediately accepted by the club’s president Jean-Louis Triaud, who announced on the club’s official website that he will hold a press conference at 10:30 local time tomorrow morning.
“That was the final press conference that I will be giving. It was a disastrous evening for the club and for myself. My daughter was insulted in the stands. Already she has had problems at school…therefore I am taking the decision to step down,” Tigana said in his post-game press conference.
The former Monaco and Fulham coach had already tried to resign several weeks ago but his request was denied by the club’s hierarchy, who will give more details in tomorrow’s press conference, as well as announcing their plans for the remainder of the season.
Tigana succeeded title-winning coach Laurent Blanc at the beginning of the season after the former international defender accepted the French national-team job. However, he has found it difficult to replicate his predecessor’s success, particularly after the sale of Yoann Gourcuff to Lyon.
