According to him, President Mills had shown by deed and words that he was capable of transforming the economy, after stabilising the financial situation of the country, and laying the ground for macro economic growth.
Mr. Tanoh said that since the Reform Party gave its support to Prof. Mills in the presidential election runoff, it had followed his works, and believed it was worth giving support to him.
He said when they heard that Prof. Mills was going to pick his nomination forms, they thought it wise to give him further support and boost his morale to make him know that his efforts were very credible.
‘We went with him as a sign of solidarity to give him further support,’ he said.
Speaking on a local radio station after the President had picked his forms, Goosie noted that they were with Prof Mills as a sign of solidarity, with the hope that in the years to come, especially, during a second term, he would have found his feet solidly on the ground to transform the Ghanaian economy.
Mr. Tanoh mentioned that the former first lady had the constitutional right to contest the NDC presidential slot, because the NDC was a democratic party. ‘This was one of the things that the reform party stood for – a more democratic NDC.’
He said the President had used the first term to stabilise the financial situation of the country, and the macro-economic atmosphere for growth had been laid, saying he needed a second term to continue other things.
He mentioned that currently, he was engaged in other things which would ultimately help the country, because there were many ways to serve the nation.
President Mills picked his NDC flagbearership nomination forms yesterday to begin the journey to seek re-election in 2012.
The party is supposed to go to congress in July to elect a flagbearer for the 2012 presidential election.
His challenger, the former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, picked her nomination forms on Tuesday, and followed up with a grand campaign launch the following day.
