John Terry insists there is no reason why Chelsea cannot repeat their success of last season by beating Manchester United at Old Trafford this weekend.

Terry celebrated his 500th appearance for the Blues during the controversial victory over Tottenham last weekend and an Arsenal victory over United 24 hours later set up a potentially title-deciding clash for Carlo Ancelotti’s men as they bid to retain the Premier League.

The Blues have avoided defeat in the Premier League since their February loss to Liverpool and a win on Sunday would be a sixth league victory in a row – form which, when coupled with memories of last season’s 2-1 victory at Old Trafford, has the 30-year-old in optimistic mood ahead of the game.

Terry was quoted as saying by The Express: “We showed when we went to Old Trafford and won last year, which was the decisive game, that we could do it. There is no reason why we cannot do it again.”

Should the skipper’s confidence be backed up with a result, Chelsea would return to the top of the table with only games against Everton and Newcastle standing between them and a second successive title.

Terry added: “Each season you know you are going to hit a bad spell and it is about how quickly you can get out of it.

“We got out of it very quickly last year, and have taken a little longer this time – but once again we are right back in the frame.

“There is nothing I want more than to bring back that trophy.”
