China Calls for Gender Equality

Fuzhou, China — The Chinese government has urged developing countries to promote gender equality in all economic sectors to ensure development in their respective countries.

Fujian Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation deputy director Chen Ansheng said developing countries should promote gender equality in sectors such as agriculture, education, health in order to develop sustainably.

Mr Chen was speaking at the farewell banquet hosted by heads of the Fujian provincial department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation for the participants of the female capacity building seminar for developing countries at the Hot Spring Hotel in Fuzhou.

He said it was important for all stakeholders to invest sufficiently in critical sectors of the economies in their countries and ensure development at all levels if they were to have a better world to live in.

Mr Chen urged seminar participants to contribute to the development of their countries in one way or the other.

He said with the experience and ideas that the participants have acquired from China and through interactions with fellow participants, he was hopeful that the experiences would be put to good use.

During the seminar, participants visited the Urban Planning Exhibition of Fuzhou city, the Fujian Newland High Tech- Group and the poverty relief programmes in Gansu province, among other places, to learn how China was conducting its developmental projects.

Participating countries included, Nigeria, Kyrgyzstan, Cambodia, Palestine, Pakistan, Ethiopia, Malawi, Namibia, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Uganda, Kenya and Zambia.
