Chelsea’s Didier Drogba slams Florent Malouda critics: People should show a bit more respect for what he has been achieving here

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has defended fellow team-mate Florent Malouda insisting that the Frenchman deserves more respect.

The Blues midfielder enjoyed an impressive start to the season netting six times in his first five Premier League games but was the brunt of much criticism after losing his goalscoring touch during the middle part of the current campaign.

The Frenchman has rekindled his form of late, however, scoring three goals in his last three games and Drogba insists criticism of the former Lyon star has been undeserved.

He told the club’s official website: “Florent is now our league top scorer. I think he has a lot of critics but it is not deserved.

“People should show a bit more respect for what he has been achieving here.”

Drogba, who suffered from malaria at the beginning of the season, is one goal short of Malouda’s tally in the league but insists there is no rivalry as to who comes out on top in the goalscoring stakes.

“There is no rivalry over that,” he added.

“I know where I am coming from. I was out for a while and I was sick and I am happy that my form is coming back.”
