Barca’s Jose Pinto to miss CL final against Man Utd after being handed three-match ban

Barcelona goalkeeper Jose Pinto will not be at Pep Guardiola’s disposal for the Champions League final against Manchester United after UEFA confirmed it has handed him a three-match ban for his actions against Real Madrid in the semifinals.

The 35-year-old Spaniard appeared to lead a halftime fracas in the first-leg at the Bernabeu. Tempers flared on the bench, leading to a melee around the tunnel area. Police and security officials were forced to restore peace before players and officials from both sides finally made their way to the dressing rooms.

UEFA has confirmed Pinto will now miss the final as he faces two further games on the sidelines having missed the second-leg on Tuesday.

A statement from UEFA reads:

“FC Barcelona goalkeeper Jose Pinto, who received a red card in the first leg match in Madrid, is suspended for three Uefa competition matches, and, having already served a one-match ban for the return leg, will now also be suspended for the Uefa Champions League final on May 28 and the next Uefa club competition match for which he is eligible.

“Appeals may be lodged within three days of the dispatch of the reasoned decisions.”

Barca faces Manchester United in the final for the second time in three years, with the matchup set for Wembley Stadium on Saturday, May 28.
