Man accused of beating police woman

A middle-aged man was on Wednesday arraigned before an Abuja Magistrate’s Court for allegedly beating up a policewoman, Corporal Leon Adewale and tearing her uniform.

Abdulkadir Musa of Aco Estate, Lugbe, was charged with assaulting a police officer on duty, an offence contrary to Section 267 of the Penal Code.

Police prosecutor, Yilkudi Dungji, told the court that on April 26, the woman police officer reported at Lugbe Police Station that the accused went behind Aco Police Out post to urinate and when she asked him not to urinate there, he intentionally went ahead.

He said the policewoman challenged the accused and he entered the police outpost, beat her and in the process tore her uniform.

“The accused also damaged her wrist watch and inflicted injuries on her knees,” the prosecutor said.

When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty and sought for bail.

Magistrate Njideka Duru granted the accused bail in the sum of N10,000 with a surety in like sum, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

The case was adjourned to May 13 for hearing.
