Ferguson: No issues over Rooney or Evra

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Wayne Rooney and Patrice Evra will be fit for Manchester United’s title showdown against Chelsea on Sunday.

The pair were doubtful for the clash after not starting in United’s 4-1 mauling of Schalke in their Champions League semi-final second leg, although Evra came on in the second half.

Evra, however, took a knock during the game, with Ferguson considering bringing off his substitute as a precautionary measure, but it would appear the France international has made a full recovery.

Rooney was not even a part of United’s squad on Wednesday and missed training due to a tight hamstring, but Ferguson revealed that both players would be fine for the crucial match against the Premier League title holders.

“Patrice got a kick,” Ferguson told MUTV.

“I was ready to substitute him but he said he was OK.

Following their victory at Old Trafford over the German side, United booked a rematch of their 2009 Champions League final with Barcelona, with both teams looking to win the trophy for the fourth time.

United were soundly beaten 2-0 two years ago in Rome, with superstars Lionel Messi, Xavi and Andres Iniesta dominating the game.

But despite the usual suspects all set to be present to face Ferguson’s men again, the Scot refused to state his side will just make up the numbers and have a great chance to win the trophy at Wembley.

“Everyone is saying we are playing a fantastic team, which we are,” he added. “But you can’t write us off. You can never write Manchester United off.”
