Championship winners Queens Park Rangers have been told by the Football League the playoffs will be played with or without them if they docked points by the FA, which will cost them automatic promotion to the Premier League, according to The Mirror.

Rangers face a points deduction by the FA following the signing Alejandro Faurlin, which violated the governing body’s rules over players being owned by a third party, and would drop into the playoffs.

Neil Warnock’s side have appealed the decision to the FA and want the full 14 days allowed to make their case, but they are under pressure to speed up the process by the Football League, who want no delays to the domestic calendar.

QPR have dismissed the idea of rushing their appeal but are now in a fight to avoid the playoff fixtures should the FA rule against them, giving them little time to prepare for a grueling end to the campaign.

If Rangers were to refuse to play in the matches the Football League could offer their potential opponents a bye for the semi-final games, which would give them a free pass to the Wembley final.

A decision is expected to be made this week by the FA, and QPR are confident they will able to win the case despite the seven charges that have been made against them regarding Faurlin’s signing.
