Wilshere: Urges team-mates to move on from miserable two weeks in March

Arsenal starlet Jack Wilshere insists the team need to forget their nightmare two-week spell in early March if they are to be successful.

Everything was looking rosy for the Gunners towards the back end of February ahead of their Carling Cup final against Birmingham City at Wembley.

However, a late mix-up between defender Laurent Koscielny and goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny gifted Blues a winner in the final.

Arsenal were then dumped out of the UEFA Champions League by Barcelona before they exited the FA Cup to Manchester United on March 12.

Having been so close to ending their trophy drought against Birmingham, Wilshere admits the loss still weighs on some of his team-mates’ minds.

The 19-year-old accepts the team did hit something of a psychological barrier following the defeat and he now wants the north Londoners to put the harrowing time firmly in the past.

“We have to win something and we won’t win if we keep thinking about those two weeks,” Wilshere told FourFourTwo magazine.

“It the Carling Cup final defeat was devastating, even now the boys still say ‘we could have got a trophy there’.

“There was always the psychological feeling if we won that, it would give us the confidence to win more.”
