Vincent Kompany states desire for long and successful stint at Manchester City: I am lucky to be part of such a beautiful story

Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany looks ahead to a successful and long future at Eastlands, after making great progress at the club.

The Belgian international was signed by former boss Mark Hughes in 2008, but has continued to flourish at the centre of City’s defence under Roberto Mancini and was rewarded with a place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year and the captain’s armband in the absence of Carlos Tevez.

“I have made a lot of progress,” said Kompany.

“But I still have a lot more to show and bring to this club. I am definitely looking forward to the future and looking long term.”

Kompany arrived at Eastlands just prior to City’s takeover by Abu Dhabi United Group, and has witnessed the club grow in strength over the last few years.

Huge investment by the new owners has resulted in a mass turnover in players for City, however, Kompany has always remained a regular in the team and a fans’ favourite.

“I have never been embraced as well as I have been here, by the fans and the country in general,” he said.

“I feel really comfortable here and I am proud to be a part of everything that is happening.

“I take nothing for granted and work hard every day, because I know when it happens, we should all consider ourselves lucky to be able to be part of such a beautiful story.”

The 25-year-old will hope City’s next chapter will involve European football as the side look to clinch the lucrative fourth-place Champions League spot, but before that a trip to Wembley for the FA Cup final against Stoke is in store.

Kompany added: “We are on course. We have gone a tremendous way since the takeover happened three years ago.

“It is a completely different club now and it would really be a great way to start the success story we want to have with City by achieving Champions League qualification and winning the FA Cup this season.

“That is our target, and it becomes even more important than ever now.”
