According to them, the DCE, after assuming office, had been threatening the pro-NDC workers at the assembly, a situation they claimed had led to the resignation of some of the workers.
The over 100 irate NDC youth, who wore red bands to signify their anger about the behaviour of the DCE, made the call at a press conference held at Agona Asafo on Tuesday.
The NDC youth expressed concern about the way Mr. Obeng exposed his arrogance by insulting the chiefs and opinion leaders in the district recently in an interview with an Accra-based radio station.
They alleged that the DCE, who claimed to be a principled man, had met 11 contractors in the districts and made certain demands.
In a release issued and signed by the spokesperson for the youth, Richard Antwi Buabeng, who doubles as the organiser for Kwanyako Methodist BB, indicated that the DCE had divided the party members, a situation he claimed would make the party lose in the 2012 general elections.
“We want somebody who can unite as to build a solid party and if President Mills refuses to change Obeng, we will definitely defect from the party,” he added.
Mr. Antwi Buabeng alleged that DCE was able to order the chiefs to go and collect the school uniforms which were distributed to some school pupils in the area under the President’s Free School Uniform Delivery program. He alleged that the DCE had been very vindictive and divisive and had set up an illegal investigative body to look into what the former DCE did.
“This is an attempt to give a dog a bad name and hang it and this will generate cracks in the party to the pleasure of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP),” he stated. The DCE, who was confirmed less than two weeks ago, was the only DCE who polled 72 percent of the total vote cast to be confirmed as the DCE of the area, as compared to his two predecessors who polled 100 percent.
Although, the executives of the district resisted his appointment as the DCE of the area, he had the support of some gurus of the party in the region.
