Armed Forces were left stunned when Gam Petroleum piped them to the tug-of war title, one of the Mayday sports highest point earning event.
The strength-requiring sport has been Gambia Armed Forces’s most treasured, and with lofty points attached to the rope-pulling game, the Gambian Soldiers have been leading in this category since its inception in the country-according to statistics.
But the petrol-selling company defied predictions in this year’s edition of the daylong sport activities, to beat Gambia Armed Forces.
The Soldiers started the competition unbeaten, and swept aside Nawec in the semi-finals before losing to Gam Petroleum in the final bout on 2-1 1 as the crowd pulsed to an uproar.
The results of Mayday sports are yet to be made public by GNOC.
