Former Liverpool defender Alan Hansen has praised the impact that Kenny Dalglish has had on his old club.

Under Roy Hodgson at the beginning of the season, Liverpool found themselves in the lower half of the league before a resurgence under Dalglish, who took over in January.

Hansen is one of Dalglish’s former team-mates and believes a return to the club’s traditional way of playing has transformed the team’s fortunes.

“For me the big thing has been the flexibility of the formations that Kenny has used and how players have adapted,” Hansen told LFC Weekly.

“Kenny knows the game and he knows players, but also ingrained in him is the Liverpool way – the pass and move game that our club’s success was based upon.

“Right from the word go, as he has said himself, he wanted to see players passing and moving on the training ground. We’re reaping the rewards of that already.”

Despite the fact Liverpool are now on the verge of qualifying for European football again, Hansen still feels a lot of rebuilding needs to be done at Anfield to make the club a force once more.

“I know I keep saying it, but as a club and a team there is still a long way to go,” he said.

“However, everyone who has seen Liverpool play over the last few months recognises that we are on the right lines and that is great to see after such a difficult first half of the season.”

Hansen is often seen as a spectator at Anfield and was spotted alongside former assistant manager, Phil Thompson, during Sunday’s 3-0 win over Newcastle.
