Jonathan cautioned over Imo polls

President of the United Niger Delta Energy Development Security Strategy, UNDEDSS, the coalition of all ethnic nationalities and civil societies of the Niger Delta, Prof. Pat Utomi has urged the Federal Government to urgently prove to the world that it is genuinely concerned with the welfare and security of Nigerians and foreigners within our boundaries, by speedily bringing to book all those who were responsible for the massacres that followed the recent elections in some parts of the north According to Utomi, “there must be no witch-hunting. Every Nigerian must be seen to be subject to the Constitution and extant laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.” Utomi was speaking at a press conference culminating the 20th extraordinary emergency enlarged national executive meeting of UNDEDSS in Lagos which was attended by notable clerics, traditional leaders and youth leaders of the Niger Delta.

Following the inconclusive Imo State governorship election, a prominent indigene  of the state and Chief Executive Officer of American Automotives Limited, Mr. Celes Ejimkonye, has called on President Goodluck Jonathan not to interfere in the state politics as any attempt to do so would rub him of  people’s goodwill.

Ejimkonye, who spoke exclusively to Vanguard reporters at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, said it was a thing of joy to have democracy in the country but noted that Imo people were suffering because wrong people had been at the helm of affairs of the state.

He stated that Imo State had been very unfortunate to have leaders who lacked vision and wisdom to deliver on their campaign promises.

Ejimkonye said: “We have had 12 years of democracy in Imo State, but the impact is yet to be felt because the wrong people are occupying the leadership positions of the state.”

He noted that Imo had many intellectuals who, if given the opportunity, could take the state to greater heights.

He added: “A lot of Imo people felt that change is necessary because there was no good governance in the state. Imo people have spoken with one voice. They want change and that change is Owelle Rochas Okorocha.”

He explained that his support for Mr. Rochas Okorochas stemmed from what the people were passing through in the state, as well as what Rochas had done for the people through his foundation.

“I feel for the people of the state and I believe that if elected, Rochas will bring succour to them,” he added.
