Garbaharey — Heavy clash between Somali government forces and Al shabaab fighters erupted in parts of Gedo region in southern Somalia, officials said on Saturday.
The fighting broke out a village of Burgadud about 15 kilometers west of Garbaharey after a large number of Somali forces launched premeditated attacks on Al shabaab fighters just outside of the town.
Abdirashid Mohammed Hidig, Somalia’s deputy minister of defense claimed great victories in the fighting.
Mr. Hidig noted that they had inflicted irretrievable losses on their political antagonists, saying they had confiscated the areas rocked by the confrontations.
Sources told Shabelle that at least 6 wounded government soldiers were picked up to a medical facility in Garbaharey town.
However, Al shabaab has not comments on the government claims and the clash with TFG troops in southern Somalia so far.
