Election petition tribunal yet to receive case in Zamfara

Election petition tribunal sitting in Gusau, Zamfara State is yet to receive any complaint from candidates who were defeated in the recent elections.

Secretary of the tribunal Barrister Hannatu Bello who disclosed this to Daily Trust said there was no case filed in respect of the National Assembly elections 21 days after the declaration of results. Election petitions are to be filed before 21 days after announcement of election results but the period has already lapsed.

Similarly, nine days after governorship and state assembly elections, no petition has been filed despite indication given by the state chairman of PDP Ibrahim Mallaha that the PDP will go to court to challenge the election.

Mallaha who spoke after the state PDP executive council meeting said the party was not contented with the election results declared by INEC which gave victory to Abdulazeez Yari.

He also said the party had concluded arrangement to challenge the victory of some members of the state and national assemblies elected on the platform of All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP).

In all the elections, the opposition party, ANPP, defeated the ruling PDP in governorship election, won two out of three senatorial seats, five out of seven House of Representatives seats and 13 out of 24 state assembly seats while PDP won all the remaining seats.
