Luapula Province Minister Besa Chimbaka has said he is disappointed with Chief Chisunka of the Ushi people for misleading Zambians on the development projects being undertaken in the province.
Mr Chimbaka said the people of Luapula Province had come to understand Chief Chisunka as an inconsistent and unreliable person who kept on issuing inconsistent statements, depending on who visited him or interviewed him.
He said people could not depend on the traditional leader and urged Zambians to ignore him because he was always uncertain of various developments taking shape in the province.
“Chief Chisunka is a kind of a traditional ruler well-known even by his fellow chiefs in the province to be in the habit of interchanging statements on people he talks to, especially on development projects currently being delivered by the Government,” Mr Chimbaka said.
He said this yesterday in reaction to Chief Chisunka who was quoted in a tabloid newspaper as saying the people of Luapula Province were not seeing the development achievements President Rupiah Banda’s Government claimed to be delivering.
Mr Chimbaka said President Banda was changing the face of the province since coming into office and the people of Luapula were appreciating the Government’s concerted efforts to improve their livelihood.
“We, the people of Luapula have now come to understand Chief Chisunka as very unpredictable, inconsistent and unreliable in whatever he says.
“He is a kind of a person where today he says something and tomorrow he will change if someone asked him. So, we don’t take him seriously,” he said.
Mr Chimbaka said currently, the Government was constructing Luapula Girls Technical High School at Musonda Falls at a cost of K30 billion.
He said the Government was rehabilitating Musonda Falls hydro-power station which supplies electricity to Chief Chisunka’s palace, and challenged him to come out in the open on whether he was not accessing power at his palace.
He said recently, some officials from Danish Agency for International Development visited Chief Chisunka to discuss how major roads in his chiefdom could be worked on.
“As provincial minister, as I am speaking to you on phone now (yesterday), I am inspecting construction of Luapula Girls Technical High School at Musonda Falls and also monitoring rehabilitation of Musonda hydro-power station which supplies power to Chief Chisunka’spalace,” Mr Chimbaka said.
He said last year during President Banda’s visit to Luapula, Chief Chisunka, who represented traditional rulers from the province, read a communiqué in which all chiefs in the province resolved to support Mr Banda.
Mr Chimbaka said Chief Chisunka’s attacks on President Banda had, therefore, shown that he was not a reliable traditional leader.
