Aston Villa director Charles Krulak admits board must take blame for poor season

After Martin O’Neill walking out on the eve of the new season, Gerard Houllier was brought in at the start of September, but the Frenchman has endured a turbulent time as manager.

Villa have largely been in and around the relegation zone most of the season and there has reportedly been heated arguments between players and backroom staff.

Krulak was quoted as saying by The Sun: “This has been a very tough season and no one is happy about what has transpired.

“We had great expectations. We are not blaming our previous manager.

“I can point fingers all day long but that will not alter the facts.

“Just like we are capable of taking accolades, we need to take the blame when things are going bad.

“I recognise my responsibility and accept it.

“Likewise, chief executive Paul Faulkner and owner Randy Lerner understand they cannot just accept the kudos, they also must accept criticism.”

Manager Gerard Houllier is currently away from the club after being admitted to hospital with a recurrence of a heart problem, and Krulak sent his thoughts to Villa’s recovering manager.

“He deserves our prayers and our hopes for recovery,” Krulak added.
