Outgoing Nasarawa State governor, Alhaji Aliyu Akwe Doma of the PDP, may be heading to the election petition tribunal where he will seek to be declared winner of last Tuesday’s governorship polls in which Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) won.
Apart from Doma’s campaign Director General, Senator Walid Jibrin, who had congratulated Al-Makura, saying his victory was an act of God, the outgoing governor, his associates and the PDP executive officers in the state are yet to send any congratulatory message to the governor-elect.
Doma had told the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) which members poured into Doma, his hometown to sympathize with him over the defeat of his second term bid, that election comes with victory and defeat. But he added that, “it is not over yet, until it is over.”
Sources close to the governor told Daily Trust that lawyers are already putting their heads together.
The state PDP chairman Yunana Iliya and the secretary Adamu Oyanki did not pick their calls for comments, just as the state information commissioner, Barrister Mamman Alakayi, also did not pick his calls.
But the CPC legal adviser, Barrister Abdullahi Mohammed, told Daily Trust that the party is prepared for the outgoing governor and will be glad to meet with him in court.
“We are aware he is preparing information and what he calls evidences so that he will go to court. We are prepared for him. It is not a mandate manufactured in Doma as he did. We are ready for him, let him go to court. The court is not only for the plaintiffs, but for the defendants too.
“If I were him, I will take a drive to Al-Makura’s house and take the path of honour by congratulating him and avoid listening to sycophants who have been insisting that he goes to court,” the lawyer said.
