The Majority leader who is the National Assembly Member for the area and the councilor for the area would confirm to the Executive that the residents of Abuko have been making their voices heard regarding their plight for years. The Deputy Mayor spoke about a national of Holland assisting the village to make pipe borne water accessible to a section of the village. In actual fact, the person who assisted the villagers by extending the pipe borne water provided for a nursery school to the village is a Belgian National. They even promised to extend services to the whole village if NAWEC could provide electricity for the pumping station.

Foroyaa had reported on this over a year ago. It is strange that the Majority leader had not taken the initiative to assist the residents of his constituency to get the support of NAWEC so that they could have water and electricity which would have averted the apparent initiative to bring their plight to the notice of the President.

Foroyaa had done a thorough investigation of the accessibility of water and electricity in the outskirts of the Kanifing Municipality. Many places still get water from wells which are dug close to pit latrines and not far from sheds used for disposing raw sewage. They rely on candles that are very vulnerable to fire disaster.

A special task force is necessary to look into the plight of people residing in such areas.
